should I buy and insure a car now for my 17yr old daughter

If he is the owner of the car he should probably be the policyholder, as it's him who'll be wanting the payout if it gets written off. It wouldn't be fronting so long as he's honest with the insurers about the fact that it's his daughter who will usually be driving it.thenudeone wrote: »Just make sure that you are honest with the insurer about who is the main driver, who's the owner, and who's the registered keeper
Don't just add your daughter as a named driver on a policy you take out, if she will actually be the driver most of the time.
This would be fronting. It's a criminal offence and would probably result in a cancelled and voided policy if there's a claim.
Obviously claiming to be the main driver himself is a bad idea - it might keep the premium down, but it can void the policy and is potentially even criminal. And it's easily proven - a look in the CD rack is often enough to tell the assessor whether the usual driver is a middle-aged man or a teenage girl.
