cocoa.

is it possible to have an autistic cat? (an i mean this in a genuin way and mean absolute no offence to any autistic child or adult out there).

so as you all know cocoa is our 1yr old ragdoll boy. (see avatar pic).

ragdolls are supposed to be laid back, full of love, everything you want in a cat basically.

cocoa, is against all his traits.

picked up=no thanks put me down NOW!.

have a cuddle on my lap=not a chance im off.

want a stroke=stop touching me!, avoid you at all costs touching me bend down move my head away, im off cant stand this no longer.

open door=dart out as fast as possible at the glimmer of day light or moonlight i want OUT, even if i have get trod on or trip up anyone anything, on my way.

look at you= i aint looking you no way would rather look at that ugly dog next door than look into your eyes.

yay new litter=im going to go and roll in it, bury my head in it, flick it up in th air and chase the falling balls of litter round the hall for two mins then ill poop in it.

kids=play time, gimme gimme that pen oooh look i write too with my mouth!, you dont want this pen any more, im going to take it off you and hide it inder the rug. ooh look computer, i'm going chase that mouse curser, bit that cable, sorry was you on that website i found it boring so i turned it off for you. dont leave me i'll cry here ill hold onto your legs so you have to come and play with me. agh you want to play dolls, you can dress me up if you like (sits there being dressed up like its the most relaxing things in the world). oh oh oh stairs i love stairs ill play a gome of tag in the stairs (ill tag on you pull me up by your trouser legs).

kids go to school=crying by the front door for 2 hours every morning, sulking upstairs in their bed.

ohhh ohhho ohhohoh a open tumble dryer wow whats in there? can i sleep in here? ooo ohh mum wants to put washing in here hang about ill just nap here a min (try to take him out) look i too can hold onto the sides!! you are not taking me out of this spaceship.

batteries oooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh oooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh i love em, must be AA and must be of an energetic bunny veriety, ohh i love to carry you around, put you under the rug and try and dig you out, and when i cant cry at thewhat seems) floor for a solid 30 mins miley cannot play.

am i interested in other cats=miley is a play thing to be jumped on, tinks is there to be looked at like i never know exactly what you are, lilly who and what is it?

when i sleep i snore and wimper.

grass is chewing gum!.

all joking aside, this is making me think there is something wrong, he loves raw potatoe so much he's starting to open the cupboard to get at it.

sleeps in some unusual places!, like the tumble dryer if left open, the washing machine. behind the toilet, last night he was cuddle down with the twins, except they were lying their legs on him and he was loving it purring away (wich he never does), and when i went to rescue him from being squished, he padded my hands away, third step up on the stairs, or ontop of the stairs, landing, litter tray.

he doesnt seem to want to interact with adults at all avoids us at all times attracted to the kids, lock him out of the living room when the girls are in there is asking for trouble, same when they go out, or not come home on tuesday as its crafting with nanny afternoon, cry cry and then onto scratching at the door, going up in the girls room sulking in the window till they come home, then dash at the open door never mind the kids are home out is his aim then.

other than that he fit and healthy!.

anyone got any idea's on this behaviour been like it since we got him, it makes him unique, but yet frustrating he wont interact with us.

Wow .... Question should be are you a tad hyper ? :D
Obstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal.

I don't think you could really call it autism but there are animals who've shown obsessive traits. It could be worth having checked out medically if you're that concerned. For example, thyroid conditions can cause obsessive behaviours - Kiki (dog, not cat) started pacing a lot when she was hypothyroid (stopped now she's on medication), as well as staring into space (again, another symptom).
Lots of it just sounds like typical cat behaviour to me though! You could always try a Feliway plugin perhaps, I've heard lots of good reviews on it and heard recently if it helping a cat who was very hand/human-shy.

I don't know. My 2 Ragdolls are very different, we joke that if boy cat was a human he would have extreme OCD - and be my stalker. He won't leave me alone, follows me everywhere, sometimes he will just sit staring at me. He will sit on my lap at any given chance but not anyone else. Ted trys to eat sellotabe and ribbon and clear sellophane. No idea why. We rehomed him and knew he was nervy from the start,

Girl cat is cute, furry and loveable. Not the brightest of cats but fits more of the Ragdoll mould. She adores my daughter. She's snoring away as I type - loves to sleep on her back with her legs wide open.

I think one of the traits of Ragdolls is that they latch on to one person.

miley has attched onto me she follows me everywhere i go, wich is a stark difference from when we first had her and wouldnt even come anywhere near me. the wife calls her miley magnet, because she's stuck to me 24/7.

i cannot move without her either watching me, or following me, she gets distressed when i leave the house or lock her out the room away from me.

if theres anything on me she wants it off me for E.G i wear headphones for my computer, she dont like the chord anywhere near me and tries to bite it and cart it off, or she'll rub her head against the ear cups of the headphones and push them off my head. she goes for my braclet and tried to remove it from me, knecklaces she tries to have a go at so i keep them tucked in my t shirt.

she get annoyed with me if i dont touch her when she is on my lap and will slowly put her nails in my legs to alert me that she's there to be stroked and fussed not ignored.

she's fast asleep on my legs, on her back legs appart snoring away.

Much of that could simply be how he was socialised (or not socialised) as a kitten and when he was taken away from his mother and litter mates. The rest seems potentially normal crazy cat.

Do you know anything about feline body language? Looking into their eyes is a challenge, some mind it a lot more than others. Maybe back off and spend some time clicker training him that you are not a threat and to come to you? Do you go down to his level so you are small or are you always giant hands reaching down from a great height?

he was professionally bred, and socialised well as a kitten we had him on his 15th week of birth.

i come down to his level, making myself small, ill lye on the floor and play with him (the aa battry is his fav), but even then he'll bend down when stroked etc.

yes, cocoa is a bit strange - but, Atrix hun, our family have never had 'normal' pets! they have all been a bit 'eccentric' to say the least! Remember what Felix was like????????????
  • I think it's challenging to have pets like that?
