Lloyds TSB Offshore - Transferring Funds From UK

Hi all

Has anyone got experience with transferring funds from a UK bank to a Lloyds TSB Offshore savings account (sterling)?

After much (and I mean MUCH) back and forth, Lloyds TSB are insisting that it has to be done as a foreign transfer using the IBAN/Swift references. Which will cost £8 from my Smile Bank account.

When I contact Smile (same as the Co-Op Bank people) they say it can be done as a normal bank transfer (BACS?) so just needs sort code, account number, and 'a reference'.

This makes sense to me as I've previously made transfers this way before to an AIB offshore savings account. And they were also based in the Isle Of Man just like Lloyds TSB Offshore!

I've tried using just the sort code and account and the transfer is rejected, apparently by Lloyds-TSB..!

Can anyone advise how they do transfers from the UK to Lloyds TSB Offshore? Do you have to do 'foreign' transfers? Or a straightforward bank transfer but quote something as a reference?

Thanks for any help :)

  • Lloyds Offshore are correct: their system does not allow for incoming BACS/FPS transfers to many of their accounts, even though they have UK sort codes. Apparently Lloyds do not consider that this information is worth making clear to customers.

My previous accounts with BOS (which became Lloyds accounts when BOS were taken over by Lloyds) did allow for BACS transfers, of course, as do accounts with ALIL and Nationwide International and every other offshore UK bank I have come across.

On discovering this I closed my accounts with them. Quite useless.

Wow - well that clears that one up then. Thanks:).

Wish I'd asked here first instead of trying to get a straight answer from Lloyds-TSB..!
