And I'd been in the industry 14 years over 12 years ago when I decided to leave and get a proper job. Not quite sure how that makes it 'tosh'?

If 'they' obviously thought 'kerching' then the price would be a heck of a lot higher.

£30 to produce and administer a card and £17.50 for a test only just covers the cost.

And may I remind you that it was the Major Contractors Group that brought it in. That's the Major Contractors, you know, the people that run the industry. Nobody else. You basically 'they' are the people that 'are' the industry. So 'they' only have 'themselves' to blame.

It makes me laugh how anybody can expect a job in this industry without the card, it is similar to basic food hygiene in kitchens without it u don't do it, I for one am glad for the card as it gives you the basics for working on a site, I said the basics, these can then be extended upon by the companies.

But how do you get one with no experience of the trade? - It's one of those things I've noticed you need to have experience to get it but you can't get experienced without it

Same goes for many other types of work such as security / SIA (which were also mentioned in my opening post though everyone concentrated on the CSCS for some reason!).

I think there may be confusion here, there are plenty of places offering the card with no experience, it is not a requirement to have the experience its more about safety and knowing correct procedures

The last time i looked at a site about the cscs card it was bleating on about having experience in the trade etc. It looked to me as if they were actively trying to keep people out of the trade by making it as hard as possible to obtain the card.

Well I was offered a cscs course by jcp and had no experience, they were also willing to pay for the card as well so might be worth speaking with them

They won't help me - I'm not able to claim JSA as my partner works full time. That naturally means I have £Mega and can live the life of luxury..

In seriousness the cost isn't so much of a problem but as mentioned, I looked into this and it seemed I couldn't get the card without industry experience yet around here you can't get experience without the card..

I didn't do the course as I found work but the advisor sold it as cscs and course was 4 weeks ft with a local training provider funded by jcp with a card and guaranteed interview at end of course as long as you passed
