can you action a CHAPS payment for completion over the phone if being unable to get into the branch is a problem and online has limits?

I'm not sure of the definitive answer, but in my experience the answer has always been NO; every time I've had to go into the branch
But it may depend on who you bank with - I think every bank has their own rules... 0 -
I'm thinking no also, certainly my building society (Nationwide) requires me to go in in person, and if it's over £1000 I need photo ID. Best that you find out for your particular bank.0

I bank with the Co-Op and I did it with CHAPS over the phone, but had to fax them signed confirmation as well. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0

Clearing Bank that I worked for (many years ago) would never have taken an order to deliver £xx,xxx.xx over the phone except to another account held by the same organisation or individual.
It's not against the rules as such as far as I know, but it's too much of a security risk to be allowed.0 -
done a CHAPS transfer yesterday - as above i had to visit the branch with photo id (abbey)0
