I dont eat them but feel I should offer them as doing Xmas dinner this year.
Any recommendations? I have freezer space to store if the bakery ones are best.
Thanks in advance.

  • I've always made my own but I my mother-in-law bought me a year's subscription to one of the food magazines and it was amazing the number of times that Lidl and Aldi beat M&S etc for mince pies, Christmas cake etc etc... so maybe you should consider them...

    Cheers

I like the Lidl ones because they are vegan (a hangover) but tbh the pastry is a bit damp - not a problem for me as I usually discard it. You also have to watch the expiry date, don't buy these too early.

M&S were selling mince pies at half price last week, might be worth stocking up if the offer is still on?

OH makes ours. I got a freebie from Abel & Cole Monday and it was delicious just as well that I had ordered some as they may sell out ! 12 for 4.99 Don't recommend Mr Kipling as though the interior is good the pastry is dry.

174934.jpg These Sainsbury Taste The Difference are £2.00 for 9 mini ones at the moment, buttery & 'brandy-rich'

And they have another mini set but with 3 different types in the same box - one is topped with crushed nuts; another, ecclefechan; and the other is flaked almonds

They look a lovely selection on a plate & a nice size too when you just want a couple of mouthfuls ;)

Another vote for the Aldi luxury ones. Not a great lover of mince pies but already scoffed one box and bought two more last week which may or may not last until 25th Dec!

I have to say my favourite ones are Greggs - taste more like home made than the boxed ones.

We like Iceland's mince pies. Very "short" pastry and good amount of filling. £1.50 for 12.
