  • Joe,

Firstly, you need to realise you cannot continue to gamble, it's not just money you are losing, you could damage your relationship with your partner/parents, TODAY IT STOPS.....NO more gambling, can you make that commitment to yourself, otherwise until you do, we cannot not help you.

If you can commit, then I'm going to quote Martin Lewis, no debt problem is unsolvable, and yours is no different.

You have lots of options open to you, but in the first instance post a full SOA (incomings and outgoings), and we will comment on how you can save money or direct you to a debt charity.

I really do wish you well, just for today you will not gamble, tell yourself that each morning and make it a challenge, because it will be, its an addiction and you can overcome it.

sorry to say but you have gambling problem and the last place you should be working is in a bookies i doubt they will want you there when they find out. you pose a security risk.

I would never steal from loved ones or from work to gamble, i dont feel the need to gamble like compulsive everyday cant stop thinking about it kind , i hate it! The problem starts if i lose money il continue to chase it, not because i like it. Its hard to describe... When im in work i dont even think about placing a bet, its when im at home at night on the laptop at 1am and decide to have a flutter on roulette with £20 which turns into much more

You seem very concerned to let us know that you're not like an ordinary gambler (you know, the ones who pay your wages). You're a night-time poker player and not the sort of person you'd expect at a GA meeting. Well done for starting to deal with your problem but, as others have said, you don't really seem ready to face your real problem which is the gambling. Once you have come to grips with that, then you can start sorting the debts.

OP I have to agree with the replies you've had. You're addicted to gambling and until you take steps to address that you're not going to sort your debt problem - things are just going to get worse. I have to say you cannot rely on willpower alone to conquer this addiction. Where has willpower left you all the times you've tried to stop before? A 12 step group like GA is a recognised way to support people in recovery from their gambling addiction, one step, one day at a time. You really need their help. For your own sake and for the sake of your family. Good luck.

i know what your saying is right, i will give them a call and try build up the courage to go to a meeting. Its the financial mess im in just now that i dont know how to get out of..
The financial mess you find yourself in now is directly caused by your gambling addiction. You have to address the addiction first. Have you a trusted friend who can accompany you to a meeting? You really must take that first step, because no one on here can help you sort your money out untill you stop gambling. Please pluck up the courage to look for help.
