Halifax Ultimate Reward Account

Hi All,

Over the past 12 years I have been struggling with debt and was way in over my head, nearly £15000 worth of loans, credit cards etc. The past 5 years I have paid off over £13000 of this.

Around 5-6 years ago I was in a very tricky situation with my Halifax bank account. I was stuck in a cycle of charges, sometimes £300 a month. It got to a position were, when I was paid and all my bills, rent and charges came out, I got more charges due to being overdrawn again etc etc. This carried on for around 6 months. I decided to bite the bullet and went to speak to my bank. They stated that my account I had charged £5 a day for being overdrawn, though if I upgraded to an ultimate reward account, i'd only being charged £1 a day and would be better off. I was also told of all the extra I'd get, none of which I would ever use. After being told it would help me I agreed to it, £13 a month fee. 3 months ago I received a call from Halifax Head Office to have a review of my arrangement that I have set up on my account. The female agent asked about my ultimate account and why I have it? I told her the above and she was shocked as I should never of been place on that account, especially when I was placed on an arrangement. She downgraded my account for me to a standard reward account. I wrote to Halifax 12 weeks ago with an in depth complaint about the above, 9 weeks ago I received a letter back from the PPI department stating they are sorry to hear about my complaint regarding my PPI on my loan???? I spoke to Halifax again and said I havent complained about my loan, it was my bank account. I sent this also by letter with a previous copy of my letter and there response. This has been 9 weeks and still no answer or response. Has anyone else tried to get a refund on Halifax account fees? Does anyone have any advice getting a refund, since they said them selfs I should not of had it?

Regards

Craig

Do you have both proposals by the bank (ie the first saying that you would be better off etc and the second saying you should never have been advised to take it out) in writing?
  • No as the first was in an interview with the bank face to face and the second was over the phone
