Land Of Leather - Creation Finance Problem

Hi All

I am having a problem with Creation / Land of leather. I bought a couch on 16th April 2006 with 1 years interest free and no payment for a year. I tried to call up creation on Monday 16 April 2007 to settle my bill. I tried call the first time and after 4 minutes on the phone, the line went dead. I tried 3 more time throughout the day and could not get through, or the line would go dead. I called from a with heald number.

I finally got through on Tuesday, a day later, and they have said that because I did not pay the settlement on the Monday they are charging me over £500 interest, the couch was only worth £650!! I advised them that because I could not get through I could not pay it. This has been passed onto their managers who plan to call me tomorrow.

Any advice on this, as I dont see why I should pay this much after trying to pay 1 day after the interest free periode, especially when I could'nt get through to them on the Monday!

Please help.. Thanks

Their interest charges and how they work will be in the Terms and Conditions of the agreement you signed. Land of Leather didn't force you to leave it until the very last minute to attempt to consider clearing your interest free period, that was your choice.

Unless they have broken their terms in some way, unless they are trying to enforce something you didn't sign for then your only hope is that the manager who calls you (or will not, whichever) had a particularly agreeable breakfast and is in a great mood. Don't hold your breath though.

How on earth did they arrive at a figure of £500? It sounds exorbitant. Is there some sort of penalty included in there? If so, then there may be something that you can do about it.

Good luck tomorrow. It would be wise to have a complete read through of the t&cs that you signed before they call you tomorrow. Knowledge is power and all that ;)

It may be reverting to an APR of about 35%, repayable over 24 months on a storecard at a guess?

Dunnc64, what ARE the rates of the finance, if it's not being too rude to ask?

    Hi guys

Just to let you know that I got away with the massive fee they tried to charge me and settled the loan for just over £500. I advised them that I had proof that I called them on the monday several times but could not get through, as my phone bill stated the time and length of the calls. After a week of my claim with their management team, they advised they where happy to settle the loan!

    Thanks

  • Hi there,

I too am having a really tough time with CCF. In short, bought stuff, took advantage of 12 months interest free period. Paid amount off in full (have letter confirming same from Open & Direct). Then, CCF took over and withdrew 10 payments (totalling nearly £500) from my bank account for items I had already paid for! Bear with me, it gets worse!

I contacted CCF and they INSIST that I still owe the entire amount. It seems that because I returned one faulty item, a second account was opened in my name with the full amount outstanding! What is worse, is they have no handed my details to a Debt Collection Firm.

I am really very upset as everytime I call CCF they deny any of the info I have posted to them (including a letter from the administrators of Open & Direct) outlining the entire situation.

In short, CCF owe me nearly £500, however, they continue to call/write and harrass me.

Does anyone have any details of the Board of Directors/Chief Executive's details so I can fax these details through?

    Many thanks

    Sam

PS Dunnc, you mentioned the Management Team at CCF, do you have any names/numbers?
  • Righteo, over the year that is interest free interest is gathered every month on on the £650 based on a rate of 29.8%, now this collective amount is not added until the day after the special offer date, which for you was Tuesday. Now roughly a week after this the 3 year agreement starts in which a direct debit comes out every month, but not only that come the 2nd month another 29.8% is added on the current balance at that time, this means that the amount goes down gradually, but in a way it also rises.
As with the managers, they'll just pull the old, "Well you had one whole year to pay this off, why did you wait until the last minute?" Or send you a buy now pay later letter.
Also it states on the introduction part that you should make the payment 5 working days before the special offer date, so if you were to write in to compliance chances are they'd just remind you of that.

Any questions feel free to ask me =)
  • i also have an agreement with this lot, i dont have to pay anything back till july 09, but as land of leather have gone bust, might they come looking for the money early? or is there a way of getting money off the bill?
