Sorry another tablet question

My 9 year old son really wanted a ipod touch as his friend had one and he wanted to play zombie farm (I know that this is also available on anroid, as I can see it on google play but my phone dosent support it).

I have been looking at the ipod touch (but he not intrested in listening to music at all) so i thought this might not be the best option.

I then went on to look at the kindle fire but alot of people just said it a glorified e-reader, which he has his books already downloaded to my normal kindle but he isnt really intrested in as he prefers actual books.

I then looked a the nexus which i think might be the best bet but then you cant play games online theat need flash player.

He got his dvds transfered to a memeroy stick which he can use on his grans TV (mine to old). So was looking for some tabletly thing i could do the same with?

So he will mostly be using it for game apps, online games, movies (have lovefilm already) but hopefully using the usb stick??

Looking to spend around £200 but could go up if required.

Many thanks for any help provided.

google don't support flash, but you can still manually install it by using other broswer.
Samsung Tab2 currently have cash back offer, which make their tablet good value for money. Have a look at tesco/ carphonewarehouse/ currys yourself.

You will find the same problem with any new tablet, wont play flash games. Yes you load adobe flash manually and it will work for some sites, but there no guarantees it will work for them all, especially facebook games.

In that budget, you may want to factor in price for screen protector and a case.

Samsung galaxy tab 2 7 is £147 with £30 casback (need to wait 15 days before you claim back and takes 30 days to be refunded) but for £117 its a nice tab. Typing this on a tab 2 7.

Ebuyer are doing Acer iconia A110 for £180 with £50 cashbask, hase same power as the nexus, but screen is not as good. But does have hdmi output and micro sd card slot.

So whatever tablet you go for, will be a problem for some online flash games.

  • Hi there.

The Kindle Fire is an Android Tablet with a customised version of the Android OS installed and a link to Amazon's "App Store". It is linked to Amazon in the same way that the iPad is linked/locked to Apple's iTunes environment.

As a piece of hardware it is good, but has limitations.

If you are looking at a £200 budget, it is worth considering devices with larger screens than the 7", as these are often more versatile in the long term. 9" and 9.7" devices are very popular at the moment. At a minimum, make sure that the device has a host USB port, microSD card slot, and HDMI out.

Flash is a thorny issue at present, and support for this in Android has become complicated. Personally I would steer away from it and focus on apps/games from the Google Play store.

For future proofing, I would go for a standard/generic tablet, as you can then chose where you get your apps from. A standard Android tablet will let you install apps that come from outside Google's marketplace as well as directly from Google Play.

Best of luck with your search!
  • Thanks for all the help been really useful. I continue on the hunt for an android tablet.
