New gas fire

I am looking for a new gas fire to replace an existing inset gas fire. I have seen a Paragon slimline 3 in stainless steel but it seems expensive - £600inc VAT but excluding fitting. I have looked on the net and there are fires available online that look similar and are cheaper. Are they all the same or do you get what you pay for?
Any other good makes that I could look at?
Thanks for any advice.

depends on what you want , igf you find something you like and you can get it for a good price then maybe it's worth getting rather than something that's cheaper and not quite what you wqant
  • So is Paragon an equivalent brand to the likes of Kinder or Valor?

They are all similar to each other.

However IMO, I would look again at paragon, as they are made by the same company as Matchless fires in Telford.

I gave up selling matchless years ago, as they have a really bad name with aftersales. If anything is wrong, then it is you at fault. You got it fitted incorrectly, you damaged it, you have to pay for the part and callout and if it is found that it is their fault by the engineer, you wil get your money back for the callout and parts. It is worse than trying to speak to a doctor via the receptionist, than trying to get them to agree to anything.

All fire manufacturers are having a hard time at present with service, everyone has started switching their fires on after ages and finding they won't light. They are blaming faulty goods, when all it needs is a good service, which should be done every 12 months, but few do it.

With reagrds to valor/kinder, will be similar quality, but should be cheaper.

That paragon fire you are looking at is a bit steep in price. You can get a valor or kinder one for round £399 or cheaper with a similar spec. Might be were you live, down south is always dearer. I sell a fire for £449 up here, it is sold for £799 down south.

Watch out for voiding warranties with internet purchase, you will be ok with retailer, but voided with some manufacturers so may not get an FOC callout if things go wrong. One of the ways Manufacturers are stopping raping and pillaging on the internet.
  • I am also looking at a Global Karara or a Flavel Windsor. The Global one looks nicer. Any views on the Global brand?
    Thanks

Global, Flavel, Kinder, Verine are all the same fire, all made by BFM . Not bad, but don't buy a slide control version. Slider is rubbish.

If you are looking at that brand, I would look at which one is the cheapest.

Valor/wonderfire are owned by Dimplex, all the fires are the same except the airflame. The airflame is the best looking fire on the market, but as you are looking at slimline fires, it wouldn't fit. Unless you have a proper chimney stack and breast in your room that is and have been guided to a slimline fre for some reason.

Paragon and matchless are made by Charlton & Jenrick, so they are the same.
