My son is a PC gaming adict, gaming PC costs a fortune - where can we get cheap parts

My son is adicted to PC games and, in order for him to be able to play the latest ones, he is always looking to upgrade his PC. The parts that he is after are very expensive though (particularly GPUs, i.e. video cards, and CPUs, i.e. processors - belive me, it took me a while to learn the lingvo).

Does anybody know of a good place (on- or "off-" line) where one can buy modern (i.e. the latest) but still cheap(er/ish) PC spare parts? I know that the latest things (particulalry technology) always costs more, but there are always places which sell them at a more reasonable price than PC World for example.

If you have come accross one such place, please let me know.

Many thanks

Posting the same question over and over will just confuse the hell out of you, so try to post it in 1 section you have a few replies on the thread over in techie so delete or close this one.

Being a former PC gamer myself you should really try to get him off the PC and on to consoles. less upgradeing as the consoles usually last a few years where with PC's he will constantly wanting to upgrade his CPU or graphics card adding more memory, bigger faster hard drives and when the next new thing comes out a new motherbaord and the process starts all over again. I used to do it as I worked for a IT hardware provider so I got the stuff relitivly cheap but my very disposable £17.5k a year pretty much was spent on my pc's buying the latest and greatest as they came out. I had the motion chair the virtual reality headset, force feedback joysticks. £500 every 6 weeks on the new processor. Back then I wasnt too bad I had a good chain set up where when I bought a new bit someone else bought my old one but after a while they got bored or bought consoles so I was finding it harder to shift stuff on.

PC world has never had reasonable prices ;)

So my advice save your self soon buy him an xbox 360 or a PS3 maybe both? still chepaer than buying a few cpu's and graphicas cards a year and they will last him a few years well maybe mot the 360 they die after about 12 months but microsoft replace them.
  • The latest parts cost the latest money!
they only start to come down in price as the new ones get released.
You might save 5% or so shopping about online.
but games cost dosh and so do the parts.
Isnt it better to invest in a console or just get a budget together and buy the best you can for that money then save some more up for the next upgrade in 9-12 months.
tp upgrade a PC more than once a year is a bit OTT.
Tell the kid he'll have to do with what you can afford till the next major upgrade and consider selling the used parts on ebay.
