dont know where this goes maybe here but anyway?
When they check the background of someone applying to adopt and their wife do they check out the wider family too ie grandparents for any convictions.
Someone i know has been passed for adoption and their wife has yet the grandad did serve a small sentence for child abuse back in the 90's. Interested?
When I say grandad i mean the husbands father who lives close to the family and will see the baby alot.

I thought that they did. That's pretty scary if he has been missed over and even worse if the couple in question didn't offer up the information.0

Do you think this child's at risk?"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

probably not no. I am interested to know if they checked out the grandparents though.:footie:0 -
I've been googling but I can't find anything specific. If a prospective parent has been convicted of a crime against a child, then this would prevent the adoption (even if that conviction is spent) but I can't find any information on whether criminal background checks are done on the prospective parents' families."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

If he abused a child serious enough to have been convicted and served time for it, I would have to disagree with you about him not being a risk. I would tell Social Services. If they are already aware or if it isn't relevant then no harm done, but if the prospective parents deliberately witheld the information, then perhaps they don't deserve to adopt - sorry.0 -
I had an interview last night regarding fostering children, and they asked if I had any criminal convictions, and also if any family I have regular contact with have any criminal convictions in particular for violence or crimes against children.
I guess they would ask the same questions when considering someone for adoption?
The social worker did say that it was really only close family, or close friends I have a lot of contact with who would come in to contact with the child or come to the house that they would be interested in.
As far as I know they go on my word though. My partner will be CRB checked, but I don't think they CRB check my family. They do ask my family and friends for references though.
If that is the same for adoption then I could see how social services would miss that if they were not told by the prospective parents.0 -

I've not personally been through the adoption process however as far as I am aware background checks are completed on anyone who will have regular contact with the adopted child (ren). Found the following:
'Adoption Matters' FAQ state:
"It is required by law that checks are completed by the Criminal Records Bureau, which include Police, Department of Health and Department for Children, Schools and Familes records. Additionally, checks are completed locally with Social Services, the Probation Service, the Education Department and the Community Paediatrician. Certain criminal convictions, in particular those involving children, automatically exclude applications. Enhanced CRB checks are undertaken on all members of the household who are over 18, as are local authority checks with social services."Stopped smoking 20th October 2012
This year I will have something that resembles a garden and not a building site!0
