I am really not having much luck!! my OH work laptop isn't working properly, all his work saved has gone, everything has, when I load up it says:
Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.
DETAIL - An I/O operation initiated by the registry failed unrecoverably. The registry could not read in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that contain the system's image of the registry.

Unfortunatley, that seems kind of fatal.
can you hook it up to another computer and copy the files across via USB or similar?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.0 -
The files should still be there. All that's happening is the user you're trying to log on with has a corrupt profile.
If you can log in as somebody else with admin rights and you should be able to copy the files across.0 -
Does he work for a company or himself? If he works for a company and it is a works laptop let their IT department sort it out. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
If he does work for a company then his profile is normally stored on the network and once he logs in to the network at work the profile should in theory sort itself out by copying the one over from the network to the laptop.0

So what happened to the laptop to make it go like this?

Could be a hard disk or memory failure, but unless there have been other occasional errors, it's difficult to tell.
How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile.0 -
I did a system restore and it is ok now, I just don't want it to happen again! so why would it have done this? Would it be a virus? or because its an old computer?

We get this from time to time at work.
One cause is turning a PC off while it's trying to save the profile to the server. Putting this in terms of a laptop, yanking the connection at that point will do it.
Our helpdesk usually sort it by fiddling with the profile.0 -
Thank you, it is really slow now! My oh has admitted to just switching the computer off by the button so it could be that?
Why would it be sooo slooow now? took ages to load up!Angel

It's checking the local profile against the one stored on the server.
If they are out of step it will bring them both up to the latest version.
Is this the only computer he uses? If so then change the profile to "Local";
Right click "My Computer" and then select Properties.
On the popup window select the "User Profiles" tab, highlight his account and then click the "Change Type" button. Select Local. It will not now check the server for changes to programs and personal settings.0
