hi i have just switched to paying by direct debit with my gas and elec ( both with british gas ) i set the account up over the phone and told the amounts payable each month. when i got the bank statements the amount the gas payment made was £ 55 more than agreed . when i telephoned them they told me it could not be reduced and the computer has calculated this amount and there is nothing they can do. they said i was due for reassessment next month and may payments may be reduced. has any one else had similar problems , is there anything i can do ???????

If they have taken the wrong amount, you can claim it back from your bank under the direct debit guarantee.
You can't dictate to them how much you want to pay I'm afraid, a dd is an agreement and if you can't reach one with them you'll have to pay by a different method or switch suppliers.0
