Neighbours leaves

Hello,

I know that I probably cant do anything about this.

My old neighbour has gone into a home and a "friend" has inherited the house.

For the past 20 years my neighbours tree has because of the prevailing wind dumped all its leaves in my garden - it is a big tree 60- 70 feet tall I don't have trees in my garden and they definately fall from the tree... in the past both my neighbour and myself cleared them up and afterwards settled down for a cuppa & a chat.... really was quite enjoyable to be out in the open air.

But..... things have changed, my council now charges to take away green waste. The new neighbour has told me that leaves fall and thats it and no help will be coming from their direction. Yes I know he is right about the leaves, my garden is too small to have a compost heap or to store the leaves in bags for future mulch..... it seems wrong that I should have to pay to remove garden waste generated by a neighbour.

Pity that after all the years I lived here that I now have a neighbour I wished I hadn't.

Sorry rant over just going out to bag up some more leaves

Don't you have a council garden waste bin?

is it feasible to return then to the neighbours garden after picking them up?(without them blowing back)
  • Yes, I have a council bin, £30 pa fortnightly collection fee

No, really couldn't return leaves to the neighbours garden - feel sure they would notice last year we had 9 bag fulls each. Even though I don't really want anything to do with the new neighbour I don't want to be un- neighbourly
  • How about offering the leaves on Freegle?

Enjoy the tree, even though slimy leaves this time of year aren't the best bit.

I have lots of leaves in my garden from a neighbours tree but it never crossed my mind that they somehow have a responsibility. That said my garden bin is collected fortnightly for no extra charge.
Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

  • I may have picked this up wrong, but from the posts above you pay £30 PA for a fortnightly green waste collection. So if you have paid this it shouldn't be an issue or have I missed something. If you've not paid this then I suggest you ask if your neighbour will as it is his waste you are dispossing off.

You could offer on Freecycle, I have been out collecting leaves for my leaf moud pile the last 4 or 5 weekends, so someone might come and collect.
  • I like the idea of freegle,

I don't pay for the council waste collection any longer as I have such a small garden that the shreddings I get from that is enough to mulch my plants each year. If I shredded all the extra leaves I would be swimming in mulch.

In view of the comments about the leaves I am sure they wont pay for disposal. I would be grateful if they just helped clear them up like the previous neighbour did.

Where do you live? In West Yorks we had three bins and a box thrust upon us irrespective of wanting them or not, we have a garden waste bin, general waste bin and a paper bin, all of which are large wheelie bins, and then a plastic box for glass and plastics, they are collected every two weeks but at no extra cost. With all the space they take up in the garden you could just leave them open, they would catch most of the leaves and we harldy use anything other than the general waste bin.

The leaves will just blow away and rot.

I have many large trees in my garden. I mostly sweep the excess leaves under the bushes. By the next winter they've vanished and I can sweep the new ones under there.
