Hiya! Was wondering if someone could help... Ive made ragu sauce in the slow cooker for tonight, but ive just had a look at it and its got a layer of oil on the top... Have tried spooning it off but its not working... Anyone got any ideas as to how to get rid of it? cheers! viks xx

Hi vik,
If you can chill it the fat on top should become solid and you'll be able to lift it off with a spoon.

Vik, I'm afraid I don't have an answer other than to make your own sauce without oil. Oil will coat your pasta (or whatever) and the sauce will just slide off on to the plate, and for this reason I don't use oil in Italian sauces.

Pop a few pieces of kitchen roll on the top. The oil will be absorbed hopefully leaving really tasty Ragu underneath0

It is my own sauce! i made it last night, but i think the oil must have come out of the meat whilst in the cooker, and has now risen to the top!

Vik, What I do to avoid an oily sauce is to dry fry the mince and drain off any fat before adding it to the slow cooker. It's amazing, even with supposedly lean mince how much fat comes out of it! This might help next time.

.....ooooh, sorry, thought you meant a jar of Ragu. Veggie here so know nothing about oil coming off mince as Quorn mince has none. I'll shut up now

I normally do that is the silly thing, but i was in a bit of a flap last night, the little un was playing up, so i forgot! Serves me right! lolYou lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....
