I don't suggest this: but have to share that my dad, a subbie, came home one Xmas with a shiny half-crown (mid-50s). He told me that it had been given to him by the Queen's uncle (the then Duke of Gloucester) as a Xmas present for me. A true socialist, he still knew that a little girl would be impressed - and I was - I didn't spend it & it remains in my coin collection (despite me growing up to be a republican, it reminds me of simpler times!)
I also remember our drinks cupboard: it was important to offer callers a drink - but they would only ever be offered whatever had been given as a Xmas gift!

Best Christmas gift I received from work was vouchers for a really nice local restaurant :) Think it was £50, enough for two courses and a drink each for me and dh

Can't think of anything smart to put here...
  • Hate to say this, but looking the "THE HOLLY" hamper I'd rather have a £30 M&S voucher and a box of M&S chocs, or biscuits, or bottle of something nice even, a £40 voucher would allow me to buy even more yummy food that my family would not just eat but really enjoy having. :)
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

I'd rather vouchers than either of those hampers. I don't much fancy the look of the holly or curry hamper to be honest. I very much agree with the suggestion of vouchers. If you don't want to do bog standard supermarket vouchers then do M&S or John Lewis (can you use John Lewis vouchers at Waitrose?). That way they can treat themselves or buy essentials. As others have said, you could give a box of chocs or bottle of wine too if you want to give something physical.

I think the Holly hamper is a lovely idea, but if vouchers is within your company policy I think that would be even better!
We used to get a bottle of wine & a large box of Thorntons chocs each year from my old employer and they were always appreciated - some people moaned and groaned but those who didn't drink (eg the Muslim girl in our office) would swap their wine for chocs with those who were on diets. Others would use the chocs and/or wine as a gift. Yes, a £20 Argos voucher may have been appreciated more by some, but the company policy did not permit giving cash (and vouchers counted as cash)

I am sure whatever you give will be appreciated - you sound like great employers!
