Car Insurance for Daughter Age 17

My ex partner wants to buy my teenage daughter a car. he also is willing to pay the insurance.
He lives in a different city to me and my daughter, and has told her that the insurance for the car must be attached to MY car insurance as insurers will not allow him to have her on his policy as she lives at a different address.
He wants me to do the policy, with the direct debit coming from MY account. He will then set up a standing order to reimburse me each month.
I am very reluctant to do this as if he decides not to pay, I will be stuck with a massive direct debit, which I will be unable to pay each month.
Please can someone advise as the best course of action, can my ex add her to his insurance, despite her and her car living at my address?
Help please, as my refusal to do this is causing MASSIVE teenage arguments

This all screams 'fronting' to me - who will be listed as the main driver on the insurance policy?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

She doesn't need to be on his policy, or on your policy. She needs to be on her own policy.
I've never known it not possible to pay for insurance with a one-off debit card payment for the full amount. It is usually cheaper that way than paying monthly.
[Are you in the UK?]0 -
Yes I am in the UK.
I think basically he does not want her anywhere near his policy, he wants me to have all the hassle of it. I just want to be able to give him all the facts rather than him bamboozle us into getting what he wants.
I assume the car will be in her name, but he has told my daughter that it is cheaper to add her onto my policy rather than have her own. Im just not happy about it, and feel without the right ammunition I'm going to be rail roaded by my ex. He is very forceful. i need indisputable evidence.0 -
It is likely to be cheaper to add your daughter to your policy, but as she will be the main driver of the car, it is also fraudulent. See this link for more information:

Sorry, just it seemed quite an unusual request. Plus the use of the word "city" sounded American.allofushere wrote: »Yes I am in the UK.
Quite rightly so. He won't be the main driver of the car.I think basically he does not want her anywhere near his policy
There's no hassle to it. He finds an insurance policy. He sets it up in her name. He pays for it. No hassle to anyone.he wants me to have all the hassle of it.
Yes, it is cheaper. It's also illegal.I assume the car will be in her name, but he has told my daughter that it is cheaper to add her onto my policy rather than have her own.
And if she needed to claim on the insurance then the chances are they wouldn't pay out because of it.
Just google "fronting". E.g.I just want to be able to give him all the facts rather than him bamboozle us into getting what he wants.
