Why are most of the population incapable of driving in the rain?!

We have a road near us where a large puddle develops and covers one side of the road right on a bend, the road is national speed limit with double white lines along the centre. People seem to think its safer to take to the wrong side of the road and drive around the puddle instead of slowly driving through. I often come round that bend and have to take evasive action because of these idiots!0
