Spinning beachball

I have a MacBook Air which has just been to the Genius Bar. They had to reinstall the operating system to correct the problem I was having. I put all data on hard drive.
I am now putting data back on MacBook and I am just getting the spinning beachball all the time. I cannot even move items into folders on desktop. Many of the solutions i have read seem to be concerned with Internet usage but mine is doing it all the time..
I have googled it but having trouble finding instructions i can follow. I am trying to save myself yet another journey to apple shop.
Any simply solutions I can try? No tech speak pleeease!

Personally I would start with a fresh OS install and then gradually reinstall the applications you need one by one and get them working. That way you know the machine functions properly before loading it up with files.

Thanks for reply. I managed to sort it by clearing everything off desktop and starting again.
