It's the age old question: Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
I'm personally waiting.
For those of you who remember the VHS vs Beta max video war, Beta max was the superior format but lost out due to better marketing from VHS.
This will be the same.
If you really need to spend the money buy a PS3, due to over supply the price is falling (play.com have them at less than £400, which I know is still a lot of money). PS3 play the Blu Ray format.
DVD's in their current guise will still be around for a few more years so I'm in no real hurry & I'll wait to see how it all pans out.:TNo Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -
Both have there advantaged and disadvantages - I use HD-DVD just because thats what kind of player I have - the addon for the xbox360 - is a lot cheaper than a blu ray player0

I don't think it will matter in the end. It isn't really like the betamax vs vhs, it's more like the format war of DVD+ versus DVD- the conclusion of which is most DVD writers are compatible with both. There's already a hybrid Blu Ray/HD DVD player and they are already developing hybrid discs (Blue Ray on one side HD DVD on the other) so they can be played in both types of machine. Blu ray is a bit more expensive than HD DVD but the pricing structure is very artificial at the moment, with the PS3 being sold at a loss and Toshiba's HD DVD players also being sold at a loss."She is quite the oddball. A better question might be, what do you need either for? If it's for watching films then there's not a big difference from DVD unless you have an HD TV. The jump from DVD to Blu-Ray/HD isn't nearly as big as the one from VHS to DVD so I don't really see the point unless prices come down, or you've got some cash to throw about. Data storage is another matter but I don't think that's very economical yet either.0

Unless you really want to spend alot of money and risk loosing out I would avoid both formats for about 6 months, let the priceing of the hardware settle down a little then the hardware of choice will come to the surface.
The !!!!!! industry has adopted HD DVD and that in the past has been a good sign that that format will win out. the number of HD and BR disks is increasing and BR movies are about the same price as a DVD movie so that could be a decideing vote when I looked at HDDVD's they were slightly more expensive and not many of them available.0 -
