to be fair I dont think it really matters when it comes to -r or +r
Most players these days will read/write either.
Price wise they are much of a much.
+rw disc can be used more than once. where as +r can only be used once.
You should be able to pick up a good brand of 25 -r or +r for about £50 -
I found this on the Dell website about your product:
" Discs burned with this drive may not be compatible with some existing drives and players; using DVD+R media provides maximum compatibility."
So your drive can burn +R or -R disks although they recommended +R for maximum compatability with other drives (older pcs/dvds etc).Waddle you do eh?0 -
Hi to check which one you have is easy.
start
my computer
scroll down to your dvd-rw drive
it will say either dvd-rw or dvd+rw,
then you just got the blank media you need,
mine says
CD-RW (D:)
DVD-RW (E:)
you have to be careful which you buy as + media wont work on these,
hope this helps
cw
Pls be nice to all MSer's
There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps.

If you google this you can get pages and pages about the differences between + and -R.
From my (all be it limited!) experience, I believe DVD-R is the 'official' DVD standard, and DVD+R is a rival, a bit like VHS and Betamax, etc. Hence if you look on a DVD+R pack, you won't see the official DVD logo.
DVD-R is said to be slightly more compatible with other players, but DVD+R is said to be slightly more stable. Horses for courses to be honest as the poster says above. Most new-ish players and drives will happily play and use both.
One thing to bear in mind is that if you intend to copy DVDs, you'll need to use the same type of DVD that the original uses, as both use a different coding system. So if you're copying a DVD-R, you'll need to copy onto a DVD-R too.
I've used Verbatim DVD+R's for over a year now, and have yet to come across a coaster. They've been extremely good.

Here's a good place to buy them from cheaply.
Hope that helps.0
