Will my brother be cut off?
Options
Yesterday my brother received a final/red demand from electricity company saying he would be cut off 10 days from the date on the letter if he hadnt paid up. The letter must have been held up over the Easter hols though as it arrived 7 days after it was dated and today is day 8. He has put a cheque in the post today, but there is a chance that it wont be there by day 10. Will they really cut him off on that very day??
Added to this he never recieved a first or second billing/warning letter, the first he heard was the final demand! And this happened last quarter also. He has enclosed a stroppy letter with his cheque. That said obviously he does want to avoid being cut off as they quote £300 for reconnection. Any opinions welcome - oh and he has tried to call them, but they have cut him off twice after keeping him on hold for 30 mins...

No, they won't cut him off on that very day. A supplier has to obtain a warrant from a court first, and your brother would be notified of the hearing in advance.0

They would more than likely fit a pre-payment meter first anyway rather than cut it off. They will then preset it to recover a set amount of the debt monthly, probably about £10 per week if the bills around a grand on top of the monthly usage.PMA - Positive Mental Attitude
It works for me - you try it!0
