Nexus 10 - UK Getting Shafted Again

Price of 16GB version on UK Play store £319

Price of 16GB version on US Play store $399

$399 at today's exchange rate £250

So ... why are we being charged £69 extra exactly?

    250 plus 20% VAT = £300.

And you've chosen Martin's best exchange rate. If you use an average, $399=£300.

True - I'd forgotten about VAT.

    PS - I didn't use Martin's exchange rate at all; I used XE.com. :)

Plus something else to consider is state and local tax in usa get added at end of transaction, plus a cpl of states have to add recylcing costs. Plus there are more people in usa, so they can but in much bigger consignments.

  • Plus in the USA your statutory rights are much lower and so here you get a minimum of 12 months guarantee and a "reasonable life" under SoGA plus the distance selling regs allowing you to return within 7 days etc where as in the USA your rights are much lower ( warranty is 90 days from memory but i could be wrong).

Rights carry a cost and these are ultimately beared by the consumer

To be accurate, it's 6 months after which the burden of proving the item was faulty at the time of purchase falls on the purchaser.

OP, I've done the same as you and not included local sales taxes when comparing US/UK prices in the past, so don't think you're the only one. :o

    I used XE.com.

XE quotes the mid-price exchange rate not the rate you get

Indeed, which for the purposes of comparison seems eminently reasonable. :)
