Cheap calls to Canada and Ireland - via NTL

My mum wants to call her brother and sister as above. She's on NTL (Virgin Media).

Looking at the NTL website it would appear she gets hit for 5p/min if she dials an 0845 etc number to gain access to cheap rates. Is this the case?

Are there any other cheaper alternatives? She doesn't want to use Skype etc.

Hi there,
Virgin Media have 'Talk international' that you can add for £1.50 a month. Calls to canada and Ireland cost 2p a minute then. (I guess the 6p initial connection fee applies as well)

Depends haw often/how long you phone for.

Its actually an exorbitant 6p connection fee on NTL for chargeable calls.

She could use http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php via their 0808 Freephone. No charge from NTL. 4p connection. No monthly Fee. Canada 0.5p a minute. Ireland 2p a minute.
