Outdoor security light, remote control - recommendations?

I've just moved house and am now located at the end of a rather dark lane, so I want a security light fitted on my house or garage, with several features:
!
1. Remote control that works say 150 to 200 yards so that I can switch it on when I enter the lane when walking home in the evening. Alternatively (but presumably more expensive) it could be internet controlled by my android phone?
!
2. Long range light - again, 150 to 200 yards if poss.
!
3. Motion sensor just in immediate area, say 10 to 15 yards or something like that.
!
I've no idea what type of light or bulb would be most suitable for this application, or what they cost. Any general or product suggestions? Anyone know of any good ones that are in a sale at the moment etc? Thanks :)

If I am understanding this correctly ,150 -200 yards range for a security light is going to be hard to achieve. You would be able to see the security light but it would not floodlight your approach for all that distance. Football ground size lighting needed for that type of illumination. Perhaps I am not following your line of thought.
    Forgotten but not gone.

You might want to look at these:-

    http://www.anselluk.com/products/ce_55_FLOODLIGHTING.htm

    Metal Halide

We have the Orion Slim. A lot of light for 150 watts the only downside it takes a minute to warm up.

We are in the country and we have 1 on each gable end for parking etc we also have a couple of 500W PIR ones on the side at the door ad the metal halide gives one hell of a lot more light over a much wider area.

As for controls you will be able to do it but how much will it cost?
  • A light with a 200 yard range? You'll need your own power station for that!

Hmmm so maybe I'm being unrealistic then. :(

Well, even if I could light up about 50 yards nearing my house that would help a lot. I know nothing about lighting - so is the metal halide floodlight the standard for this type of application, or are there other options?

Does anyone know where to begin when it comes to controlling it by internet on android phone (which would be perfect)? (Wisecontrols looks fun but probably a bit much for what I want...)

EDIT: Ok this looks promising... :)http://cybernetnews.com/control-lights-with-your-iphone/
  • I found this relatively inexpensive way to control the light switch via internet so could use my mobile phone to switch it on a few mins before I get home. :)

Next bit is choosing the light itself - any thoughts on that?

I have absolutely no idea what different sorts of lights and bulbs are best for, but I basically need a light that I can fix to the top of my garage or side of my house (I'll get an electrician to fit it obviously), which provides a good beam of light down the lane which is only maybe 14 feet wide but as I said earlier, quite long (it the light can stretch 50 feet that would help immensely). Any recommendations and links? Thanks. :)

The lightwave things will work but you also need the remote control sockets to go with them then get your lights wired up to a regular plug so you can plug it into the remote sockets.

You'll need to be careful about wireless range - if you can get a wifi signal on your phone where you want the light sited then you should probably be fine.

As to lights can you get more than one fitted as you really are going to struggle to get any single light to go that far. You need to look for a) the highest light output in lumens and b) as focused a beam angle as possible.

You can buy lamps on poles that you could fit all along the driveway, if you are willing to dig the trench for the cable yourself and fit the lights to the ground then it won't cost too much more for the electrician.
