The Playbook will work standalone, connecting to your house Wi-Fi internet connection.

I have one and keep it handy if I need to do a quick browse without booting up a PC.

    But an iPad it ain't!
  • thanks prowla, can you tell me what it exactly does? and yes, i dont know nothing about tablets/androids whatever

You comparing to the ipad mini? Other than the number of apps available (much more choice in ipad, and cheaper too), there isn't much / anything I can think of the that ipad mini does (or does better) than the playbook (skype video calling perhaps)... yet the playbook can do a bit more like play flash games/flash video streaming sites, download films, files and music without having to use itunes, will also show proper versions of web sites, not mobile ones. Playbook also a lot quicker and smoother, and the screen (and sound!) is excellent - no where near as good as the ipad 4, but then it costs 3x as much! Can also plug in to your TV via hdmi and quite a few android apps and games will work too which lessons the blow.

Should you have bought an ipad? Perhaps, but I reckon the kindle fire at £99 / £109 on amazon / pc world might have been a better deal.

I bought mine just to be a web browser, so I'm not bothered about other stuff.

For me it just sits in a handy place and I'll pick it up if I want to check something quickly on the internet; the news, etc.

I've not been inclined to acquire apps for it, so it really is just than single thing for me. It has a good, solid, quality feel to it.

Tablets can generally do a lot more - maps, games, puzzles, books, you name it, but I don't want it on this one.

The BB playbook is WiFi, so it's no good for out and about. In contrast the iPad can be bought with mobile internet, in which case it is really just an iPhone with a very large screen (and you wouldn't hold it up to your ear!).
