reheating leg of lamb... for a party!!

Hi,
I am having a party for my one year old boy... ok ok so its for me... just having family around.. about 8 adults and 4 kids....
I had this idea that I would do some informal food. And I was thinking about roasting a leg of lamb in advance, taking all the meat off and serving with pitta breads and salads and maybe yoghurt.
Would it reheat ok? And will it need some sort of a gravy or sauce when i reheat it?
Or would this not be nice??
Also, does anybody have any other suggestions of other nibbly food I could serve?
Thanks in advance.. Hope you don't mind me posting here! x

I dunno hun, I personally, think its a bit of a strange choice? Do you have a Takeaway secret recipe book? you could buy minced lamb (much cheaper and goes further) and make donner kebabs?0

Do you have a slow cooker - if so pulled pork would be brilliant (umm assuming you like pork) Put shoulder of pork in slow cooker, pour over a can of dr pepper then cook on low all day. Remove pork shred it with two forks, remove some of the juice, pork pork back in slow cooker and stir in some barbecue sauce - we have it
served on baps with coleslaw0 -
Maybe it is a bit of an odd idea... it was kind of a kebab style thing I had in my had, and i have a leg of lamb in the freezer...
What ur saying about the pork is the type of idea i was going for... I do have a slow cooker alright...
mmmm... isnt it funny ideas that are in your head dont "look" the same in reality.....0 -

Or pulled chicken? Add some skinless thighs to the slow cooker and add a bottle of bbq sauce. Cook until the chicken falls apart. Serve in buns with natural yoghurt, guacamole and stuffing0 -
I think it sounds yum. I used to have a recipe from a Good Housekeeping magazine which was similar but I lost it a few years ago.
From memory though, the GH one had both hummus and a yoghurt dressing, along with warm lamb, salad and warm pittas. You could also have some chilli sauce if your family like that?
You wouldn't need sauce to serve it, and if you cooked it on the day it should easily stay warm for an hour or so, covered with tin foil on a warm serving plate, so I'm not sure I would bother cooking it beforehand and reheating on the day.0 -
If you want the Donner recipe I would be happy to PM you - its just that a leg of lamb is really expensive and for serving in pittas with salad I would have used minced lamb!
The pulled pork sounds fab tho!0 -
Meritaten- I'd love that recipe if you wouldnt mind...
Some great ideas there... If I do go with the lamb, I could stick it in the oven in the morning... party is not til 4.
Was thinking then a few sandwiches, crisps, rice krispie cakes...
Then birthday cake....
Don't really have a clue how to organise this party but sure... I'll get better with practice... Would you just put all the food on the table and let people help themselves or try and get enough chairs around the table for more of a sit down thing??0 -
Sandy - I was just thinking - you could omit the flour and use the powders and spices with a couple tablespoons of oil to 'marinade' the leg of lamb overnight. just use a skewer or sharp knife to make lots of 'cuts' in the meat, then put into a large plastic bag with the marinade and rub it all well in and leave in fridge overnight. roast as usual......Upmarket kebab meat!
slice very thinly and serve!0 -
great ideas Sandy - and serve some 'Turkish Delight' too!
try it 'buffet style' - but make sure there is somewhere for people to sit! or if you dont mind them wandering in and eating on stairs or in other rooms..........let them know! Provide lots of serviettes or kitchen rolls!0 -
Thats a great idea, Meritaten... I think i will do that... I got the lamb when it was on special and have been saving it! i'm not the best chef mind but i'm thinking if i cook it very slowly i should be ok:)... fingers crossed... so excited and nervous aswell... it's funny because it is only family. But we are celebrating so many things I just want to do my best to make it a nice day...:) Argghh!
