If you want a decent TV the new Panny 37" Plasma is a good buy, http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/383557/?int=hphot1

+ 5% discount codes and Quidco on top around £725 ish0 -
The latest Which mag reviews LCD TVs - it really rates the Sony and the Samsung.
We have a Sony 32" which is fab, can't fault it.0 -
Hi loulou41,
In December 06 i paid £1569.00 for the sony kdl40w2000+ i got the sony 860dvd/hdd player for free (worth £399.00 at the time - still about that i think)
+ free delivery + 5yr guarantee on the tv + 2yr guarantee on the dvd/hdd player. Great bits of kit in my opinion. And a real good deal at the time !
The price at most places was £2000.00, but a sales assistant at 'John Lewis' did a deal with someone and it was put on an av forum on the net that i noticed, i phoned the Solihull store and the manager there honoured the deal. I was well pleased i can tell you, you could not buy it at that price anywhere at that time - i searched the net for days.
The tv has got cheaper since then but hey you have to jump on the roundabout at some stage (technology never stops moving -analogy)And you will still struggle to get both items for the price i paid in December - so i am still in pocket 5 months later.
I think Sony have just or are about to release the x-series of lcd tv's.
There are some sites that suggest how big your tv should be in relation to the distance you intend to sit from the tv to view it, this may assist you to choose the size of the tv you buy - or the size of the house you buy if you really want too spend loads of money lol !!
Sorry if this is a long answer to your question.
Good luck0 -
Thanks, am checking the price for the kdlw2000. I understand you still have to buy a sky hd box and then subscribe to sky and pay another £10 a month, am I correct? Hubby is crazy about football. Do you need a sky engineer to install the hd box? Very new to all this, went to the shops and came back more confused. Am also checking the panny 37 plasma, is there a difference between the LCD & plasma, also not sure how many HMDI, the panny has, it says 2 in one specification and later on I read 1. I was told to buy one with at least 2. Thanks for your help.0

I'll second that deanos, don't get a big LCD get a plasma screen. LCD's don't respond quickly enough on fast moving images. Try for the new Panasonic TH37PX70 or TH42PX70.

Found the new Panasonic at £719.99 at Laskys, anybody heard of this retailer, also how many HMDI, the above tv has got. The price seems more competive than the sony. Thanks for your help0 -
Deanos, you said you have the new panny 42". Please can I ask you whether you bought it with a cabinet. I have just seen, table stand is not supplied and has to be bought separately at £99,and the cabinet is £299. If you bought a complete package, do you find the cabinet is big enough to take, sky,dvd & vhs? I have seen the 37 at currys, the whole package online ccost £952.00 but the cabinet looks a bit small to me compared to the others on show. I am also wondering whether my local currys will a do price match. Thanks0
