mortgage separation question

Hi all,

I split from my ex lately, just a philosophical question for the divorce before i speak to a solicitor.

The ex and I split the equity down the middle on the old place, he mortgaged in his name and I bought a place in my name, however we also split remaining savings 50/50 and I then got hit with a £10k stamp duty bill and buying fees. that left him debt free and with £10k in the bank, I was in the red straight away!

if you were in my shoes (and you were divorcing on the grounds of unreasonable behaviour) would you ask for a higher split of the savings or just walk away thankful for your sanity?

You bought a new place of your own and paid over £250K so you like thousands of other buyers paid STAMP DUTY of over £10K
Blame the government not your EX

Given you managed an amicable agreement without recourse to solicitor. Then personally I would walk away.

You'd only recover 50% of your outlay. From this £5k doesn't go far when solicitors charge in the hundreds per hour.
