Worried about my cats back legs

I've noticed over the last few that my cat Mia who is about 4-5 years old, won't walk very far and will literally flop down anywhere.

She has always been quite a docile cat who does sleep a lot, but now she won't get up for her food (she is eating ok, but only if I put her by her bowl), and will sleep all day if I let her. She doesn't seem interested in going out either. She will get up and groom herself occasionally, but she just doesn't seem right to me.

She doesn't appear to be in any pain or limping and I can tickle her back legs without her doing anything, but getting her to walk at the moment is a nightmare, she will move a few steps and then just flop down.

We are going to see over the next few days and book her into the vets, but does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance.

Thyroid problem immediately springs to my mind. I have had two dogs which have had underactive thyroids and this made them very lethargic. Once on tablets, they were as right as rain. Don't know about it in cats, but I believe people with thyroid problems are the same.
If the vet doesn't suggest it, it might be a good idea for you to.
My vet didn't suggest it when my dog was showing symptoms, saying initially it was just his age. Then I noticed he was losing his coat which my other dog had done. I suggested thyroid problems and he was tested and found that was the cause.
Tablets solve the problems really quickly and I was actually really relieved when it turned out to be that as its so treatable..
    Good luck at the vets.

Old Orbit had this a few days before he passed away,he wasn't able to poo for about a couple days before he started to become unsteady either & nothing the vet did could make him poo.
Sadly the day I had decided to make the decision,he passed away, vet reckoned he'd had a stroke that had affected his back end & functions. (I think,I wasn't listning too much by then as I was in thredders!)
  • Cats seldom get underactive thyroid, only overactive, with dogs being the opposite.

I would go sooner rather than later to the vets. this really is not normal behaviour.

Agreed - personally, I'd be going today, especially if this has been going on for any longer than 24 hours. Hope she's on the mend soon
