it may be a simple task to replace yourself....it may also be easy too test.

theres a manual leaver on most.(using will let you check the actual valve)
Many diverter valve motors are removed by pressing a catch.
many are connected with block connectors.

motorized units are often not all that expensive. Sometimes you can also buy just the motor.(without casing)
  • Thanks everyone, very helpful stuff. I'd add that the fault is intermittent; I wonder whether the diverter could be starting to get stuck, so this maybe a helpful warning..?

Oh! I have to say that you seemed to be describing something like one of these:

Which you will find adjacent to a cylinder on an open vented system and which doesn't look anything like one of these:

which is an internal diverter for a Baxi (just as an example) boiler. Or have I misunderstood?

Well yes OP would if the casing on their particualr boiler forms part of the gas train (as some do).

    Cheers

You're not law abiding and honest then?? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Don't you think that they might just have thought of this wheeze and as a matter of course give the system the once over before taking it on contract? :D

    Cheers
As someone who's taken on a British gas contract... no, they don't come and check it all over first
