Letting agent charging checkout fee!

  • I'd echo what Firefox says. It might be worth presenting your evidence that the fee is on the high side, and asking them to provide evidence that this is the genuine cost. Or offer to arrange one of your own?

In the meantime, see: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/37757. It won't help your immediate position, but it might help change the situation for future tenants.

Just a quick question - did you also pay a fee for the check-in? Your clause states that you will pay for one or the other and not for both. If you have already paid for the check-in, the tenancy does not permit them to charge for the check-out too.

Thanks for the tip Yorkie1. Unfortunately although I had to pay a credit check fee and an admin fee I was not charged a check-in fee. I think they've been doing this a lot of years.

G_M I've read the info in the link to ending/renewing an AST.

When I first moved in I signed a years contract and then not knowing the above I signed another 6 month contract and paid another fee. Is it possible to challenge this now? Almost 5 months later?
