Unlocking vivitar digital camera

Hi. I dont normally post on this forum because i am useless at techie stuff so am just visiting.
We have a vivitar digital camera which seems to lock itself every now and then and we cant work out why. A small padlock sign appears and it wont work.
Any ideas greatly appreciated. It it very annoying!

it might be a lock which is on a timer. id guess in the settings there might be a self lock timer setting.0
