I have just read a thread where someone who is currently with cccs will not have paid the money back for 36 years!!!!
Is this right I have an appointment with them tomorrow, (I owe £13000+) but i dont want to be paying back for such a long time, there is another company who say my debt will be paid off in 4 years paying 290 per month, but they take 15% of the payment, this company is called accua, I dont know what to do,
Also I am married but dont want my husband been part of this (it is not his debt) I just wanted a debt management plan that isnt going to be with me for the rest of my life and one that really works, can anyone give me any advise please.

everyone is different. the lenght of time depends on how much you owe and how much you can afford to pay off a month. When we started we owed nearly 17k paying off £300 a month. so taking bout 6 years. we've now reduced this as i claimed back bank charges from natwest and paid them off! if you stick to budget etc that CCCS give you and try really hard you can reduce the lenght of time as well. we have brought our DF date closer by approx 8 months already
remember that CCCS is a non profit organisation and all the money you pay them every month goes to your creditors and not to some rich company!!'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0 -
I think I will wait and see what they have to say tomorrow I just hope they can do this without having to involve my husband and his income etc, it would be great if anyone has the answer to that please??0

We went to CCCS when I lost my job, and our DMP was scheduled to last 88 years, purely as an emergency measure.
I am now working part time and we are slowly getting back on our feet. Our CCCS payment has increased and, as you can see from my sig, our DFD has come quite a bit nearer.
As my hours at work increase, so will our payments and the DFD will become more and more realistic. Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches :think:Loves being a Wonderbra friend :kisses3:

not sure how they work ii out if the DMP is only for you as ours is joint one.

If that company are saying that you could be debt free in 4 years they are either:
a) lying... they just want your money not the best deal for you, remember.
b) talking about an IVA (although that's 5 years) which has bigger consequences if you can't keep up the payments. CCCS will advise if this is the best route anyway and direct you to a reputable company if needs be.
c) or you have the disposable income to pay off the debt within 4 years... if this is the case then why go to a company who'll take a cut of everything you pay? CCCS will pay every penny to your creditors and you'll be debt free even sooner
The free companies like CCCS and Payplan have, I understand, a much better reputation with the banks and financial institutions... their offers and negotiation seem to be taken more seriously because the banks know that they know what they're doing and their budgets are fair and realistic.
Good luck with calling them
Oh, and if you put all your debts and the repayments you can make into https://www.whatsthecost.com/snowball.aspx you will get a debt free date as a guide... obviously that depends on whether CCCS can negotiate to stop charges/interest for you.Don't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs. Please dont go to some money grabbing company who take a cut for themselves. Its not worth it.
How much do you owe? Have you tried to work out how much you can pay back each month and how long it will take if all the interest is frozen?Mummy to two girls, 4 & 1, been at home for four years, struggling to contend with the terrifying thought of returning to work.0 -

I don't think the OP is disputing that they owe the money. Its attractive to think about not paying back some debt but if it was me I'd want to do the right thing and pay back what I knew I owed, for my pride and conscience. It is everyone's decision to make obviously but I can't help disagreeing with such tactics.Don't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs.
