Placed an order with JL on the 11th.
E Mail notification despatched for delivery on 16th
No show
Check web site says item delivered
Phoned JL on the 19th :money:
"Hermes tells us item was delivered and signed for"
"Not by me it wasn't"
"Just a minute, we will check"
.....
"Item was left in your shed"
"I don't have a shed"
"Maybe it was left in your neighbours shed?"
"I live in a flat, there are no sheds"
............
"Hermes will deliver within the hour"
4 hours later Hermes deliver

It may be Hermes that caused the problems, but it's John Lewis who subcontracted them - despite surely being aware of their reputation.

    That is my feeling. :T

We were not informed JL would subcontract delivery and no choice in the courier used. We wouldn't have to suffer this !!!!!! service if JL delivered the item themselves or took responsibility for their chosen courier.

No appology from JL. It is the blatant lies Hermes told JL that annoy me most

In all fairness, are there any national parcel carriers who don't have an awful reputation? Parcelforce, Yodel, UK Mail, Hermes and UPS all have reams of complaints against them.

JL have their own delivery service. One of the reasons I chose to purchase from them.

Can I just add my favourite rubbish parcel carrier City Link; who have even gone as far as forging the signature on a parcel delivery when it was left in the garden of the wrong house.

I e mailed JL with my complaint and they have offered £15 compensation. I wasn't after any compensation, I just wanted them to acknowledge poor service.

    A happy ending.

I'm pretty sure the vans are only for big items and don't cover the whole country. I don't think I've ever had a van deliver anything I've had off the website tbh, but I've only used click and collect for the past few orders, with exception of an easter egg.
  • Same as other poster, the green vans are used for larger items such as washing machines. It's maybe something JL should look into for smaller items but not with the massive green vans. I too have had bad experience when they subcontracted to Yodel who had then subcontracted the parcel to a taxi driver to deliver! The result was a heavy box which had been ripped, looked like it had been kicked around a football pitch and you could hear the broken dishes rattle as the taxi driver brought the parcel to the door! Needless to say I was straight on the phone to tell JL what had happened and they said they would send it out by courier again but I said that I was not accepting delivery by courier because of what had happened so they did put it on one of their green vans which resulted in perfect dishes, not one broken! I think the green vans only do specific days in certain areas. I don't know how they could justify big green vans for very small items because of the cost but maybe they should be looking into fleets of smaller vans to deliver the smaller items themselves considering that courier services they use are so poor sometimes. I think it's all down to cost effectiveness at the end of the day but they must lose alot of money in compensation for lost, damaged or missing orders due to subcontracted couriers.
