Double yellows

Got one of these notices for parking on double yellows at a hospital (private land). The car park was full.

Am I right in assuming double yellows mean nothing on private land and that I should ignore the ticket?

If it did go to court, would my case simply be that they have suffered no loss as a result of my parking on their double yellows?

Thanks,
A

Pretty much got it in one - if it's a private company issuing a Parking Charge Notice (as opposed to a real Council Penalty Charge Notice).
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
CLICK at the top or bottom of any page where it says:

  • Issued by the car parking partnership.

What is your opinion on writing to them (anonymously, but stating the ticket number) and stating that you will not be paying, you know they would have to contest the matter in the county court where they will loose and that IF they don't stop sending letters, you will put them through the Appeals process (costing them £27) just to make the process as costly as possible for them?

I ignored a ticket in a private car park.... I did nothing. Just nothing. Ignored them. They sent some pretty scarey looking letters, but when looking at the wording they used words like "we MAY.... we COULD ... we MIGHT ..."

I stayed quiet, I did nothing.

I think it was 7 months before they stopped..... but they did stop.
  • Yeah, I would certainly ignore. It is however my girlfriend who got the fake ticket and if I can just write one letter to make them cancel, then my life will be a whole lot easier...I also like the idea of making them give me a POPLA code so I can cost them some money :)
  • Normally, appealing has always been a waste of time, as it would be rejected by default.

There is anecdotal evidence growing that, post PoFA in October, an appeal that clearly indicates that you know their game, will not be paying as you know the charge is unenforceable (for the many reasons it is so), and demanding an POPLA reference if the appeal is rejected, then they often fold, as they don't want the expense of the POPLA appeal with little chance of seeing your money.

They mean that for the purposes of traffic control and general safety, they want you to park in the marked spaces, and not on the double yellows. If the car park was full, why didn't your girlfriend roll up to the front of the building and park on the pavement in front of the main entrance?
  • Well she is a Doctor - I would much rather her be in the hospital saving lives than driving around it looking for a car parking space.

Parking on the pavement outside the hospital gates is not a good idea. It would not only cause people to have to walk on the road around her car, but it would also be in the way of incoming cause Ambulances.
