Vendor being unreasonable on Completion Date

Well I don't mind anyone delaying if they were looking for another place etc. or they had the house full of stuff that needed moving out - that may take sometime (not three weeks!)
And to use the excuse (which I don't believe) of having time to move stuff is ridiculous as there's hardly anything to move! They've known about the sale etc. going through and they could have a made an effort at an earlier stage to shift their rubbish - I'm still willing to give this coming & next weekends but would want to complete on the monday - 1week b4 the bank holiday (I don't think that's too much to ask?)0 -
They must have a reason. No-one would leave a house sitting empty for the sake of it.

I have to admit that I think you're being a tad unreasonable too. Two weeks isn't exactly the difference between
If you're going to negotiate your way around it, it has to be done gently. They know what they want, you know what you want. The watchword is compromise but if you did complete after Mayday, then it doesn't really matter.
6 weeks IS a quick sale for almost anyone, btw!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

It would be nice if they told me the reason - (even without the reason, I am still willing to compromise - I am giving them another 2wks and but I want 1wk back)l
I can keep hold of there stuff etc. and they are welcome to collect it anytime (obviously with prior arrangement - as i keep saying i'm not local).0 -

Then ask for a reason. Do you have direct contact with them?0 -
People are saying the OP is being unreasonable and perhaps so but everyone's forgetting how stressful moving is and how the least thing can seem insurmountable.
Last time we moved the vendor at top of chain changed their mind about completion day at what felt like last minute (nothing had been signed unfortunately) and wanted it the week after. When the EA told me I cried my eyes out! It was only a week but was just the last straw in terms of stress. Our people also didn't have a good excuse and we just had to put up with it. Unfortunately you may have to as well as really you have no means of making them change their mind if they don't want to.What did I do at work before I discovered MSE?!
DFD - WAS: a while ago
NOW - not sure, due to boyfriend going back to uni for masters and now pgce. Worth it in the long run!
Proud to be dealing with my debts!0 -
Sorry, you're in quite a pickle. When we moved nearly 4 years ago we made the offer in Feb but didn't move til middle June! Now, that's a long wait! (and fitting a new kitchen 2 days after we moved in is stressful, specially with 2 kids!).
At the end of the day, it's still the vendors house and they can dictate (reasonably) when to move out. You can't force them into a date they don't want, and May bank Holiday isn't that long to wait - IF you really want their house. Their personal circumstances of why they want to wait is not your business, as your reasons aren't their concern either.
It may sound harsh, but having to find a new house along with all the rubbish that goes with it,which may take another 2/3 months (at best!!) - is two weeks that long to wait?
Hope you resolve it. Moving is hell!Thank you to everyone who posts comps! :A
I would like to be lucky,healthy & happy in 2020! :T0 -
I agree - two weeks isn't that long to wait. All you can do is ask them why. There might be other issues in their personal lives that are affecting the move. People aren't totally irrational!
One of my colleagues has just bought a house (FTB) and it took 9 months!
6 weeks is good going.Errors of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it. - Jefferson0 -
i sympathise - 2 weeks doesnt seem a long time but its like anything. if your waiting for a holiday or to move house it seems like an age.
We will hopefully be completing next friday after we shoudl have been completing end of March - i too cried my eyes out from the stress of it all - not to mention living in a house full of boxes with a pile of winter clothes in the blazing sun whilst all summer clothes were packed!!!!! :eek:0
