With a 0% purchase card, does the offer begin as soon as the card is activated and if so how long does one have to activate the card?

Normally from when they open the account which might be a few days before you get the card. It might well end on a statement date.
The only way to be sure is to call them up and check.0 -
The offer on a 0% card for buying should start as soon as the card account is opened. The credit limit will be on the letter that your card is stuck onto. Sign the card and activate it straight away. This will mean that should the card be cloned or stolen, then you will be covered from day one - better safe than sorry. I had my barclaycard cloned via contactless technology in Oct 2012 and it took a while to sort out. Had to get a new card, paper copies of my statements and fill in a form, send off various emails about it all. Finally received credit back to account about 6 weeks later. And all for 3 x £10 O2 mob vouchers! The date account opened will often be the statement date for monthly payments due as well. I know mine is for the barlclaycard.0
