CashPlus Prepaid Card - How's your experience ?

Hi guys,

My first post here in this forum, I signed up here just to ask this question .. so hopefully someone could help me :)

Well, one week ago, I was fed up with my Clydesdale bank Maestro card, which is not accepted in many international e-commerce sites. So, on impulse I signed up for the prepaid mastercard from CashPlus (mycashplus.co.uk). I paid £4.95 for the card fee and received my card by post a few days later.

After that, I read reviews online and found that people generally do not have good things to say about CashPlus. So, feeling a little concerned here and have some questions:

1) I just want a card that I can use for occasional online shopping. Maestro sucks, but I don't really feel like changing bank (for now). Would the CashPlus card be suitable for me, or are there better alternatives ? If you're using it, is there any catch that you know ?

2) I have not activated the card yet. If I do nothing, will I continue to be charged £4.95 per month ?. Can't really find this info on their site. Should I call someone to ask them to cancel my prepaid card ?

Many thanks !

  • Hi,

The only problems I know off is that they have had issues with a third party that meant people were not able to access there account and were getting declines, I have had one for about 4 years and to be fair have never had a problem. As your just using it online you should be fine, I would only ever load the amount you want to spend and never leave any funds you cant afford to loose if they were to go under as they are not covered by the financial compensation schemes, Saying that they do offer S75 protection that most other prepaid cards dont.
