It seems the more I block junk mail the more I get. Is there any way of stopping it?

Expand on "block". If you mean you click on the "unsubscribe" link, that could be your problem.0

This is another recent problem for me too anything that looks like ppi/gambling etc I mark as junk but still seems to get loads more even though I don't open them.
Can I ask please why unsubscribing could cause more problems.
Thanks

I click on sweep and then block from this sender and delete. Things like PPI claims are multiplying.0

The more unscrupulous of spammers will take this as confirmation that the email address is in use, and send more and more junk or sell on your email address as a valid one. Block the emails rather than unsubscribe from them.
Never ever click unsubscribe unless it's something you know you've signed up for, like a newsletter and you trust the sender.0 -
See if this helps, the free version only scans one account
http://www.mailwasher.net/
It has built in spam lists, so check it for a couple of weeks to make sure it hasn't included any you do want to read.
It can be set to include for deletion, any mail you want, you still get the same amount of mail, but mailwasher will mark most of the spam for deletion and only send the ones you want to your inbox etc0 -
You may want to consider changing email provider.
It sounds like a problem I have / had with Hotmail. A lot of spam getting through.
I now use Gmail and all my mail is automatically forwarded to it. I've found very little spam gets through Gmail's filters.0 -
Another vote for GMail. Spam filtering is 99% efficient.
It doesn't matter how much you get as long as the filtering works well-you never need to check it.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Dangerous advice.... there's always likely to be the odd "important" e-mail that gets sucked in to a spam filter.... I'd personally check the list before taking someone else's word for it......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
I used to think the same, but after using Gmail for about 4 years now I do have total confidence in it's spam filtering.
I'm not suggesting that other users never check, but I now do it very infrequently, rather than once every few days, as I used to.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I'm not sure what you're doing but I rarely ever see any spam.
On my PC I use Outlook as my mail client and it filters out junk mail so none gets through to the inbox.
On my Mac I use Apple Mail and the same applies to this as to Outlook, it has junk mail/spam filtering and it just works, I never see any mail that I don't want.
I also have a Gmail account that I set up when it was launched. I use this when subscribing to on-line stuff and sites that require an email address before you can continue, also used for on-line shopping with the intention that any junk generated by on-line activity was kept away from my other email address.
Like Macman says it also filters out the rubbish so well that I gave up checking the junk folder years ago.One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0
