Best flea and worm treatments for cats?

As the title suggests which product do most people have success with. At the moment I'm front lining for fleas and ticks and frontal tablets for worms but I dread the tablet giving as its always such a struggle!

Just looking to see if the are any other products out there or hints/tips people have

I use Advocate and Drontal (well, the cats do!) and we have been flea free for ....... at least the last 8 years.

If your cat is not good at taking tablets you could try the spot-on wormer called Profender.

I don't treat very often as Lulu is indoor, but she had Advocate when I got her for a nasty case of ear mites and was cured in two days. :D Also covers fleas and many species of worm so good value for money even for a regular treatment IMO. Doesn't cover tapeworms so you'd have to treat for that a couple of times a year or whatever your vet recommends.

we have just started using this and gave the first dose to kitty earlier. Unfortunately she has licked some of it off and its sent her a little berserk and she keep dribbling. I have googled and checked on leaflet for the side effects and it seems a typical symptom if area is licked by animal. Looks like its gonna be a long night

  • Is there a good online place to gt advocate from or does it have to e the vets?

You can buy Advocate online but you'll need a vets prescription. My vets charge £7 to write a prescription for you to take elsewhere though so there's no saving. Not sure if all vets do this!

I use Advantage which is the same ingredient for fleas as Advocate but you can buy it online cheaply and some pharmacies sell it too (as well as Pets at Home etc). However you will need to buy a seperate wormer if you don't use Advocate. So I use Drontal and find this combo effective.
  • Another recommendation for Advocate - it does EVERYTHING!
Although we have managed the Frontline/Drontal combo with 7 cats (a couple hostile lol) - it just takes a suit of armour and a bit of determination! :D
  • If you go to. Www.ourpetworld.com. It's an Australian site where you can buy advocate without a prescription and the postage is free. I got 3 pipettes of advocate for my cat for £14
