Just a quick praise, i treated myself to a kindle fire HD (i got the 32gb one) and i cant praise it enough. I love it, use it daily not just for reading!
It will read to you!
You can change the colour of screen (i like reading white on black).
You can transfer data to it (instead of paying for apps all the time).
The sound quality is brilliant!
Would recommend if anyone is thinking of getting one!!!
I am buying my 10yr old one for xmas and would get my younger daughter one if she wasn't 3!!! Lol.
Sorry if there has already been a post about it, but with xmas round the corner i thought i'd share my enthusiasm in case anyone was considering it!!!!:T:j

Don't doubt that lol, the silly amount i spend with them! But their customer service was ace when i paid express delivery and it didn't arrive express!
Only criticism i have is they should offer an upgrade/trade in service for people with 1st/3rd/5th generation Kindles. People may well have just bought the paperwhite one, and then they release something new, which is irritating! The feeling i got when i confirmed my place studying criminology at Exeter Uni was brilliant!!!!!

My son is having a Kindle Fire for his birthday - a combined present from me, dad and grandparents. I've had it a few weeks and regularly download free books ready for when he actually receives it (next week). He has seen it and is delighted. He hadn't realised that he could use it for so much. It is a decent piece of equipment, but I prefer the dull whitish grey of the older Kindles, as my eyes are very photosensitive.
Regarding customer service, yes, it is brilliant. My Kindle (first generation with keyboard, not 3G, now discontinued) just stopped working seven weeks after the guarantee ran out. I was offered a £69 Kindle for £51.20, but I pointed out that I expected an expensive item to last longer, I had just bought my son a Kindle Fire, and I couldn't afford an unexpected £50 payment a few weeks before Christmas. Amazon replaced my Kindle with a keyboard type with 3G free of charge. I spoke to them Tuesday night and it arrived early Thursday morning. Brilliant service and one very happy customer

I got a kindle fire (not HD) for my bday in october, its a combined bday and xmas present from my family and it has to be the best thing ive bought in a long time. Im a huge bookworm and my house was being over run with books. Since getting my fire ive loaded 50+ books onto it and read about 14/15, the only problem I have is that ill happily spend all my time reading.......and forget all about housework or time lol, many times ive gone to bed at 10 planning to read for an hour and before I know it it can be nearly 1am!!!
My kids love it too, have put a load of Dr Seuss books on it for them and the obligatory angry birds for my son!!!0 -
I've bought my wife the Kindle Fire HD for Christmas.
I bought the 4th Gen iPad not long ago, but sharing it just isn't practical when she wants to be on her Facebook etc. Although our 6 month old daughter loves bashing the screen on the kiddy apps.
One good thing about the iPad was she was able to try the free Kindle app. Previously she was very much in the "won't like it, much prefer real books" camp, but having tried the app, she loves it and has been buying Kindle books herself.
So I'm pretty sure I'm safe with this presentI did consider the Nexus 7 as well, but the Fire HD seems to come out top on all the reviews I've read, apart from the fact it's very locked in to Amazon, but that's unlikely to be a concern to my wife!
