How to stop using credit card?

Hi people.

I have a Lloyds TSB credit card and was given a £3,500 limit that I maxed out back in September.

I didn’t want to use the card again, so I cut it up and started paying it off with £300 per month.

Recently I have been struggling a bit and with Christmas coming up, I have used the card online, the long 16 digit number is on my internet banking and I knew the 3 digit pin off by heart and now I feel I’ll never be strong enough not to use it in the future and I’ll never pay it off.

Is there any way, other than willpower, of not being able to use the card again?

Many thanks for reading.

Delete the details from your online banking or call Lloyds and ask them to stop further spending. Simple.

Cut the damn thing up, it's your enemy, it's going to get you into trouble and debt,

Do you really want to stay friends with it.

Cut it up, you know it makes sense.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Theyve already cut it up so the simplest solution is as above, ring and ask them to prevent further spend.

Tell the bank you have damaged the card and need a new one. Then cut the new card up before you learn the 3 dig number off by heart.

complete willpower in my opinion. this is what I had to do. I cut the card up and that was that. Also reaching the limit was a helpful factor! But seriously you can't keep spending on it it will only be worse.

I have to say though, I cut my cards up then because I've changed my name when I got married, they sent me new ones. I've seriously thought about using them but they sit there and will NOT be used.. willpower!!
    on the road to recovery..:o

Best way is to tell Lloyds to stop any further spending on the card, cutting up the card, or the next card won't help.. All you'd have to do it call Lloyds to request a new card. At least tell them you are finding it difficult.

Many thanks to the helpful responses, I have now got Lloyds TSB to put a block on the account, so now I can pay it all off by this time next year :)
  • Tell LTSB that you are in financial difficulty and they will put a permanent stop on the card.

You're right Billy, I've been a smoker, a drinker and a gambler and I've given all three addictions up in the past.

Spending on a credit card can be an addiction and can get way out of hand, it's also hard to get out of debt once you're in it and it's ok for some people to write in capitals acting all clever, but they've probably never been in those situations, or if they have then they've got out of it very easily.
