Hi, I am currently with NPower, and they have just increased my DD by £24 per month. I would like to shop around to change as my existing contract with Npower has just finished.

Could you tell me, where is the best places to start looking, are the comparision sites terribly useful?

I believe different regions of the UK pay different rates from same suppliers, so for the record I am in The Midlands, so if anyone else is also from here, and could recommend a utilities supplier that would be fab.
Thanks

Go to www.energyhelpline.com enter your post code, and importantly enter your annual consumption in kWh.

That will list all the tariffs - be careful to read the notes on each you areconsidering.

Just been on the energyhelpline (by phone) and I am flabbergasted at the arrogance of the man on the other end. He got very persistant that after giving me a quote that there was no reason whatsover for me to go away and think about it, or to consult other price comparision sites, as he claimed he had given me the best price.

Why phone when you have the internet?

    What tariff did they suggest?
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Be aware that you only "earn" your discount on the completion of each 12 month period on direct debit - not on contract maturity. You stand to lose around £100 for dual-fuel by switching away if you are not careful.

Always check two or three comparison websites. Be aware that energyhelpline has a "funny" way of calculating the results. There is small print reference to this but it may not be obvious to a comparison "newbie". IME theenergyshop and uSwitch are consistently error free.

Good question.. The reason was I couldn't work out why it was working out so expensive, but whilst on hold, I sussed it.. I had switched the kWh of my gas to elect. and vice versa...

Scottish Power online fixed price energy seems to be best.. and Quidco supposedly will offer me £50 cash back, (less their £5 costs as not used them before)

Jalexa... You have brought into my worries a new dimention.. please could you help me out a bit more on the aspect of the duel fuel discount. my sign online 23 expired on 6th November. I have been put onto the GoSave S. If I walk away now what financial impication is there?

I am not a daft person by any stretch of the imagination, but In this field Utilities I really do need things spelling out for me in simple terms.. It's just far to confusing.

Thanks for any help you can offer me. I need to stop paying over the odds for my fuel..

I have just contacted npower. They have told me that my 12 months dual fuel payment expires on 21/11 and I have just given them a reading, and they updated my account.. after applying this discount if I walk away now apparently I will recieve £32.59 in 6 weeks approx... and walk away I will.
