Cooker hobs turns off fuse box

Options
Hi,

I have an electric cooker hob which has started to turn off the main fuse box switch if I use certain cooking rings. I don't lose all electric just some appliances around my home lose power.

The odd thing is the faulty rings will then start working and the fault switches to a different ring.

I am wondering if this is a fault with the hob or fuse box as I don't want to call in the wrong person to get it fixed for nothing.

Any advice?

Thanks

  • Ammie,
I don't know what I am taking about - but you say the fault 'moves' to different rings ... so it seems more logical that it is the hob causing the problem.

Is it tripping an MCB, or do you have RCD protection on the circuit? If an MCB, you'll only lose power on any sockets on that same circuit.
If other sockets on the same circuit don't trip when used, then it's almost certain that a fault on the hob (or on the socket supplying the hob) that is causing it, you may have a short or an earth leakage. Get it looked at ASAP and don't use the hob in the meantime.

  • agree with macman. also your cooker should be on a seperate circut to other sockets etc it uses a lot of power get it checked.
