Advice regarding Post Office error...

Dropped 30 items off at the local P.O. this morning then went home and left feedback/marked them as dispatched on my Ebay account.
I normally go back in and pay the next day.

At 4 p.m. I get a call from the Post Office saying really sorry but due to a Postman error the whole lot was collected before being franked and is on it's way to Swindon.
They have contacted Swindon and hope to get the parcels back tomorrow.

Eek! What should I do! there were a couple of 1st class in there so I will contact those buyers to explain.
Should I contact all the buyers now - hopefully the parcels will all go tomorrow...

What a pain!

  • It's a pain, but yes, I think it would be best to send an explanatory message to all your buyers, otherwise some may notice a discrepancy between the date on the parcels and the date you marked them dispatched and (somewhat understandably) assume you sent them a day later than you said.

Nearly happened at mine the other day. Woman dropped of 5 bags to be sorted and stamped. Then left.

Postman comes and starts taking them (they were left customer side of the counter). Only at last minute did PO assistant realise and call them back.

I would email everyone. If Swindon cannot stop them - you may also have a lot of customers having to pay the postage and excess - which of course you should refund.

P.s cheeky post office - its their error not postman - they should have been kept separate.

I will send them all a message tonight. The P.O. has said they will cover any fees etc but they can't help me with bad feedback or DSR!
I just hope that they can catch the parcels!

Edit to say I have just sent 30 messages, and already had a few very kind replies!

Perhaps it's time to find another Post Office! that is if I am still in business!
  • 31 parcels safely back at my local Post Office and he is upgrading them all to 1st and sending them out today...

About half the buyers I contacted yesterday answered and said not to worry as long as they had the item by Xmas!

The only one I am slightly concerned about is the lady who paid for an item, and selected 2nd class (I also offer 1st class) - then emailed me to say she would love to receive the item within 24 hours as it is for her sick child...
  • Glad it has worked out for you.
