Amsterdam with Kids

Hi all,
We're off to Amsterdam for a couple of days, armed with two teenage boys and two toddlers....
Can anyone recommend a family friendly hotel for me - not too expensive as I'll have to book two rooms. Fairly central, so the big boys can do their own thing(ish!) - but not a wild crazy stoner hostel! Oh - and we're arriving at night, so easy from Schipol too!
And any other tips for what to do in Amsterdam with a 3&4 year old would be much appreciated. I read about some tunnel play thing, which I'll have to look up....but other than that, I have no idea.
Thanks again

Stayed with my family (3 kids) 18 months ago and was very happy with it.0 -
How about renting an apartment or a house?0
-
I stayed in the Vondelpark hostel with a friend, my sis and her kids. It's part of their chain which is the equivalent of our youth hostels, it is definitely not a stoner or party place, and there were loads of families there when we stayed.
It's central for museums, restaurants, the park, etc, but far enough away from the red light district that you don't wander in to it at every turn.
There were 5 of us and they gave us a 6 bed room for the same price as a 5, and guaranteed they wouldn't put anyone in the other bed because we had kids in the room. They also do some good package deals with things like bike hire and entry tickets included. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0 -
not really hotel related, but head fot the Jordaan area, no stag do's and real Dutch people and cafes/bars.0

I go to Amsterdam fairly regularly and normally book the hotel through either of these sites
http://bookings.nl/
http://hotels.nl/
You normally get some special offers which aren't normally available through booking directly to the hotel.0 -
The Jordaan is a nice area
Make sure you go to Vondel Park - great for kids
And the best place to go is NEMO - kind of like a science museum - the kids will love it!0 -
try staying on a house boat fantastic, our child loved it would suggest one but it doesn't sleep enough for you
http://www.houseboathotel.nl/.
will second nemo, of cause the boat trips are great, anne frank house kept our 5 year old interested for over an hour (many questions about why they lived in the attic).
there is even a large indoor playground in amsterdam under a roundabout if the worst comes to the worst.http://www.tunfun.nl/engels.shtml
a little further afield is Zaanse Schans http://www.zaanseschans.nl/ which if the weather is good and easy to get to by train0 -
I use a house in the Jordaan area when I'm in Amsterdam. 3 bedrooms, garden etc. Just around the corner from an Albert Hein supermarket and Anne Frank House.
Teenagers will like the Canal pedalos. Toddlers....dunno. You should keep them entertained.0 -
the ibis which is right next to the main railway station in Amerstdam could be a good choice....generally the accor hotels are a little pricey but if u manage to get a last minute deal on https://www.accor-hotels.co.uk then you could be sorted...large rooms too.0
-
House will be a good choice if you intend to organise you own food, as the the children will have some outside space in which to play whilst your getting ready.
Prolly around £100 per night, though as it's getting close to Queens Day, it might not be available. Not sure of your dates.0
