Npower Charging Extra Charges On Independent Gas Transportation Pipes
I live on a new development and am currently in the process of swithcing from SWEB to N Power for gas.
N power have written to me today, informing me that they will be charging me a higher unit cost for gas, as the supply pipes are partly owned by an independent gas transportation company and that they have to pay additional costs to supply the gas.
Has anyone elese come accross this?
Regards

Unfortunately it's up to the supplier whether they charge you extra for using an independent gas transporter. You can either go over to Npower or try and find a gas supplier who wouldnt charge you extra. Sorry0

Yes we have the same problem. I can understand the reason for higher charges, but I find it frustrating that it's not until you've instigated the transfer process that you find out whether they will charge you extra for IGT and how much.
Posted a question about this a while ago - asking if there was any way (short of calling every supplier) to find out who charges extra for IGT and who doesn't - but no one could help.
I have just attempted to transfer to nPower but found out the hard way that they charge - about 4 weeks after starting the transfer, so I cancelled. For info, Scottish Power also charge extra, they never used to but introduced it recently. So don't bother applying to them!
Again if anyone knows who doesn't charge for IGT, please let us know.0 -
I'm currently going through a dual fuel transfer to Powergen. Both gas and electric should have gone over today, but only the electric appears to have worked.
I live on a new development and would guess that I'm going to suffer the same fate of additional charges for using an IGT. I'll post an update as soon as I know whether I'm getting charged extra or not.0 -
If you're due to transfer today, then they would have had to notify you of the increased charges by now. They can't transfer you and THEN tell you afterwards that the charges aren't what you expected.0

As far as I'm aware the only companies currently not charging for IGT (typically found in new housing estates) are Powergen and British Gas.0

SSE, Npower and Scottish Power will all charge an additional amount. BG charge everyone the IPGT costBeware the green?0

Just to cheer you up, because of the de-regulation of the electricity industry, you may soon have to pay the same surcharge for electricity, if you are on a new development where the electricity infrastructure was not laid or is not owned by the local distribution company.
Be afraid!I know nothing - really!!0
